“Training by Champions” MRA Training Day

Ireland’s Premier practice facility at Magilligan Motocross Park hosted the first of six MRA training events planned throughout the 2019 season.

Fifty-seven riders were catered for over the two-day event, ranging from Auto’s right through to Youth 250F riders with all fully absorbing the knowledge and experience passed on by Multi Ulster and Irish Championship winners, Phillip McCullough , Martin Bar and Robert Hamilton. Riders came from near and far, the furthest being young Finn Wilson and his Father Peter who trekked all the way from Cork.

The weather was uncharacteristically kind given the time of the year, with only a slight breeze and an occasional light shower which was never going to dampen the enthusiasm of these budding Champions of the future to learn.

As per usual, the track was prepared to GP standard by the track owner Phillip McCullough who left no stone unturned in preparation for this event. While first aiders were on hand, thankfully there were no injuries. On site caterers were also on hand to serve up hot food for the trainees at lunch time.

Another five training schools are planned, one at the newly opened track owned and run by Gareth and Matthew Robinson, who have resurrected the once famous “Claudy Sandpit” circuit. This will undoubtedly provide spectacular racing during this coming season. Thanks to Gareth and Matthew both for building this amazing circuit and for making the track available for this MRA training event.

Thanks also to “The Voice of Irish Motocross”, Mr Roy Neil, Maurice Auld, Sam McMinn and Johnathan Fairley for the work behind the scenes and flag marshalling during the event.

Dirt Bike Ireland’s very own Ian Cairns was on hand on both days, capturing memories for all in attendance.
