Ulster MX Championship – RD2

The second round of the Ulster open Motocross Championship was held at Seaforde MotoPark on Monday 7th May.

This years annual Mourne Motorcycle Club event saw friends, neighbours and even brothers compete against each other for top honours.

The Grade C MX2 class was first to the line with Markethill rider Scott Bailey winning all three races as two County Down men aimed for high finishes. Newcastle man Daniel McFerran was second overall on the day with fourth, third and second place finishes, as Crossgar rider Stephen Gill, who didn’t start the first race, went on to take fourth and fifth place finishes in races two and three.

 

The Grade C MX1 class was next to the line with Comber’s Jordon Wade leading all three races from start to finish, taking three race wins on the day. Wade was followed home by Calvin McCorkell, Terence McGlone and Ballykinlar man Fintan Fallon who finished fourth overall, after two thirds and a fifth place finish. Killinchy’s Stephen Gabbey finished fifth overall after a sixth, seventh and a fourth place finish; Saintfield man Thomas Murdoch took sixth overall with two fifth place finishes and sixth in race three, as Dromore man William Flack came home in eighth, tenth and seventh positions to finish seventh overall.

In the combined Grade A and B MX2 class Loughbrickland brothers Jason and Cailum Meara were competing for the Grade A honours, as teenagers Rhys Graham from Kilmore, Seaforde’s Nathan Green and Kilmore rider Conor Mullan aimed to be top Grade B finisher.

Jason Meara won overall with a second place finish and two wins ahead of Glenoe’s Glenn McCormick, with a first and two second places, and Cailum Meara who had two thirds and a fourth place finish. Mullan celebrated his sixteenth birthday in style with three top ten finishes overall, after a win and two second place Grade B finishes. Graham was the second Grade B finisher with a seventh and two wins, as Green fought back from last position in the first two races to take two third place  finishes and a fourth on the day.

 

 

 

 

 

The final race on the line was the combined Grade A and B MX1 class with Loughbrickland man John Meara and Lisburn’s Richard Bird leading the way home as they fought for the race wins. Bird came out on top on the day with two firsts and a second place finish, as Meara won one race, along with two second place finishes. Portravogie man Robert Hamilton was third overall, with two thirds and a fourth place finish, as Banbridge rider Sean Devlin finished fourth overall after a seventh, third and fifth place finishes. The overall Grade B finisher was Ashley Allerton, with a first and two second place finishes, Samuel Donnelly was second overall, with first, third and fourth positions, Kilmore man Joel Brown finished third overall with two fourths and a third place finish and Downpatrick man Johnny Presho finished fourth overall after taking sixth, eighth and second place finishes.
