The second round of the Ulster barley stubble championship took place last Sunday, 22 July. Entries for the event were fantasic with 200 adults and schoolboys taking part. It was great to have a few more grade A riders, James Mackrel, Robert Hamilton and Jordan McCaw; and road racers, Adam McClean and Seamus Elliot join us for the day.
James Mackrel took the wins in Grade A with Robert Hamilton and Jordan McCaw battling for second and third in race 1 and 2. In race 3 Jordan took second place with local club rider James Thompson finishing in third place. Trevor McMullan and Craig Brown weren’t far off the pace, finishing in fourth and fifth position.
In Grade B, Russell Tannahill took three wins, with Mark Graham a very close second. Young Jack Moore and Colin Gordon finished in third and fourth position respectively.
In the C class Jeff Rainy took the wins with Jack Grills, Liam Brown and Ryan McMaster hot on his tail for second, third and fourth place.
In the Veterans, Gary McKee, the championship leader, had a tough battle with Liam Brown with Gary taking one win and Liam taking two. Clifford Wilson and Gary Scott weren’t far away with third and fourth positions.
In the Evos, James Thompson took three wins with Trevor McMullan a close second in all three races, Young Jordan Simpson finished a very impressive third in the second race. Ryan McMaster and David Stockdale had some great racing.
The Adult A Pitbikes was dominated by James Thompson with Adam McFaull in second and Jordan Simpson in third.
In the Adult B’s, Bobby McGuicken took two wins – his first ever race in the Pitbike class. Mark Middleton had a one, two, three and Stefan Morrow and Brent Kane had good thirds and fourths.
In the Youth Pitbikes A, Benn McCann had two strong firsts but a fall in race 3 gave Jack Smallwoods the win. Adam Murphy and Adam Pearson had a few battles on the day with young Murphy taking second and young Pearson in third..
In the Youth Pitbikes B, Kai Wallace walked away with three wins, with Oran McConnelouge and Mark Middleton battling for second and third position.
In the Autos, Lewis Mullan had three impressive wins, with Corbin Marsden in second and Kyle Graham in third.
In the 65’s race 1, Rueben Marsden took the win and young Lewis Spratt took second. Hot on his tail was young Will Chambers in third. In race 2, Marsden took the win again with Lewis Spratt leading until the last lap when young Will Chambers passed him to take second place, and race 3 when Chambers took the win for his first time ever with Marsden in second and Matthew Herron getting a well-deserved third.
The SW 85’s Tony McCann had two wins but with a slip off in race 3 he finished in fourth position. Bailey White had an impressive two, two, one. Luke Stockdale and Sean Cunningham battled for third and fourth positions.
The Big Wheels – Jack Henderson took the lead with three wins with Joshua Mackrel in second and Jack Wills in third.
The Seniors saw Bobby Quigg take three wins with Bobby McGuicken taking two wins and a third. Curtis Donnell took two thirds and a second place.
We would like to thank everyone for bearing with us at the start of the day -unfortunately there were a few bad crashes. We want to wish all involved a very speedy recovery.
